Lather Rinse Reboot

How many times does this happen in your home? You hear... “Honey, I can’t connect” or “sweetheart, my email’s not working” or my FAVORITE... “I can’t connect to Facebook”.

It’s time for another Data Doctors Tech Tip.

When you have nagging issues with your technology, whether your desktop, laptop computer, smartphone or tablet, instead of struggling with “how do I fix this?” remember what the shampoo bottle says.

Lather, Rinse, Reboot! OK, it’s really lather, rinse, repeat, but Lather, Rinse, Reboot, makes it easy to remember.

If the email program on your smartphone is stuck, or you can’t seem to find your WiFi connection even though it says you should be connected... Lather, Rinse, Reboot!

If your laptop is running like molasses, or if the spreadsheet you’re trying to edit isn’t adding up... Lather, Rinse, Reboot!

When your desktop PC can’t seem to connect to your favorite websites or the screen goes to sleep randomly... Lather, Rinse, Reboot! You starting to smell a pattern here?

In all computing devices, resources get used. The longer it’s on, the more you do with it, the more resources get sucked up.

When you kill an app or resource, it gives up most of its memory usage, but a fraction remains and over time, your resources run dry.

So the next time your laptop acts lousy, your desktop is declining, or your tablet it tardy, before you call your IT guy remember this first.

Lather, Rinse, Reboot!

We’ve got the answers to your technology questions.
