Online Shopping Scams to Watch For

This year’s holiday online shopping season is expected to be the biggest ever, which has both retailers and cybercriminals very excited.

Sophisticated social engineering scams, phishing e-mails and compromised social media accounts are just a few things you should watch out for.

Since UPS and Fedex will play a big role in getting items to you, expect to see the usual fake delivery messages in your Inbox, usually accompanied by an attachment that is the so called shipping manifest .

Scams focusing on credit card and gift card offers are also likely to appear again this year.

Also beware of what appear to be your friends proclaiming great deals on their social media profiles. Compromised accounts allow scammers to post links to fake deals that appear to be from your friends.

Fake websites claiming to have those hard to get items may actually appear in Google ads and search results, so I’ve outlined what you can do to help sniff out these scams at DataDoctors.com/radio
