Smart Doorbell Warning

Smart doorbells that incorporate a high definition camera and wifi have been evolving and getting better, but you need to do some homework before you plunk down a couple hundred dollars to get one.

The concept of having a video pop up on your smartphone whenever someone rings the doorbell is appealing, but wifi signal strength is critical to just about every model available.

Popular devices from companies like Ring and Skybell have users complaining about performance and reliability especially when it comes to video.

If your wifi signal is weak or non-existent at your front door, you’re not going to be very happy with the performance of any of the wireless options.

You also need to pay attention to the devices that require their own power source if you’re current doorbell is not hard wired.

The video quality can also be impacted if the camera is pointing directly into sunlight and be sure to test your wifi signal at your front door with your smartphone in airplane mode first.
